It may have been an exciting announcement when the next Fable was confirmed, but some fans are concerned about the choice of developer. Playground Games may be responsible for the popular Forza Horizon series, but this will be its first non-racing game. Although players have been assured that the game is in safe hands, the newcomer to the fantasy genre should definitely look to older games to help shape the game when it comes to Fable’s development.

Plenty Of Content

Bethesda’s Elder Scrolls series has been a fan-favorite franchise for years, but Skyrim remains the standout for many players. Despite releasing in 2011, it still has a dedicated fanbase and a healthy player count thanks in no small part to its active modding community and immense replayability. Skyrim is absolutely fit to bursting with content, whether that’s areas to explore, quests to complete, or lore to dive into.

Subsequent editions of Skyrim also brought improvements, extending the life of the title and making necessary changes as the years went by. While this may not be relevant for the upcoming Fable, it could ensure that it maintains Skyrim’s high standard for additional content post-launch. Expansions are a great way of bringing players back to a title after they’ve completed it, and Skyrim had plenty of substantive add-ons for gamers to sink their teeth into. Fable should make sure that there is not only lots to do in the base game, but that it also has a few major expansions as well.

Detailed And Engaging Settings

One of the main focuses of Skyrim is exploration. The settings in the game are detailed, interesting, and varied, and exploration is always rewarded and encouraged in some way as players get to grips with the massive in-game world. Like many Elder Scrolls titles, Skyrim is full of deep and in some cases surprising lore that gamers can uncover. It expands on the games that came before it in the series in satisfying and exciting ways, and Fable could do the same. It may be a reboot for the franchise, but there is plenty that it could take from previous Fable games to help tie it to the series while still creating a new world with unique characters.

Epic Battles And Fun Encounters

Engaging lore, compelling quests, and interesting settings can all be important aspects of an RPG, but the game may face harsh criticism if it doesn’t also have good combat. Combat is a core aspect of gameplay, and if it’s clunky, boring, or too difficult, it may put players off. Skyrim is seen by many as one of the best Elder Scrolls titles when it comes to its fighting system, and this is because it not only feels satisfying but also offers gamers lots of options for taking down enemies. It’s challenging without being too hard, varied without feeling haphazard, and fun without being frivolous, striking the right balance in almost every aspect.

Combat and enemy types could be a big part of Fable’s success too. The previous Fable games offered good combinations of magic and melee, with some ranged options thrown in as well, but a few gamers thought it was a little simplistic. This suits the style of the Fable games, with their irreverent humor and slightly whimsical design, but this could also be combined with more complex systems to ensure that the combat is challenging as well as memorable.

Fable is in development for PC and Xbox Series X/S.
