Many players have pointed out time and time again that the PS4 version of Cyberpunk 2077 has some of the most egregious bugs and glitches, resulting in numerous crashes since the game first launched. It got so bad that Sony had Cyberpunk 2077 removed from the PlayStation Store, which was virtually unheard of in terms of a major AAA release. Now, over a year later, the most recent update of Cyberpunk 2077 on PS4 reveals something rather interesting.

Over on Twitter, an account named PlayStation Game Size tweeted that the file size for Cyberpunk 2077 has decreased by almost half. Since the release of patch 1.5 for Cyberpunk 2077, the PS4 file size decreased from nearly 100 gigabytes down to 59 gigabytes. This may seem quite odd, all things considered.

As advancements in gaming hardware and software continue to roll in, this has caused game file sizes to become much larger. Some of the most popular and technically impressive PS4 games tend to have enormous file sizes, so to see the file size of Cyberpunk 2077 decrease instead of increase as a result of this newest patch is certainly bizarre. However, there are a number of things this could possibly mean.

In the past, a number of the content updates and hotfixes for Cyberpunk 2077 applied to specific instances in-game where a crash would consistently occur during the middle of certain quests. A number of these Cyberpunk 2077 crashes ended up not being fixed on PS4, resulting in the file size getting larger and larger to accommodate all the new patches. Thus, this newest patch could mean that a number of these minor fixes were addressed more efficiently, resulting in a more compact game file size.

It could also mean that CD Projekt Red had to downgrade the visual quality on previous console generations in order to make Cyberpunk 2077 run more smoothly. This might make some PS4 owners upset, but at the end of the day, the hardware capabilities of the PS5 far outweigh what the PS4 is capable of, so it makes some sense as to why Cyberpunk 2077 might not look as visually stunning on PS4 as a result of this new patch. In any case, it will be interesting to see what the future holds for Cyberpunk 2077 going forward.

Cyberpunk 2077 is available for Google Stadia, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X.
