Stevenson made his pro debut in 2017. A silver medalist in the 2016 Olympics, he won the WBO featherweight title in 2019 against Joet Gonzalez. The 24-year-old then made the move to super-featherweight. Stevenson won the interim WBO super-featherweight title in June 2021 against Jeremiah Nakathila.

This past October, Stevenson beat Jamel Herring via TKO to win the WBO belt.

Valdez made his pro debut in 2012. He started his career with ten wins via some form of knockout. In 2016, he won the WBO-NABO featherweight title, and a few months later, he beat Hiroshige Osawa to win the WBO featherweight title. Valdez defended the title six times.  

Moving to super-featherweight, Valdez beat Miguel Berchelt in February 2021 via knockout to win the WBC super-featherweight title. He last fought in September, beating Robson Conceicao to defend the belt.
