For Mario Day (March 10), it was announced that Super Mario would be getting the LEGO treatment, but the details for the future project have yet to be revealed meaning it isn’t clear if this is a new game, playset, etc. Shortly after, GAME’s online post on the collaboration made a reference to a nonexistent Direct that supposedly occurred. The post was quickly edited to reflect the truth but not before the internet got wind of what it was implying - a Nintendo Direct either was supposed to happen or is happening soon. Grub’s later claims support the latter.
It should be noted that one of the Directs has been rumored to be indie-focused while the other one is a traditional one (the last proper Nintendo Direct occurred in September 2019).

Confirmed Nintendo Games on the Backburner
If the PS5 and Xbox Series X aren’t delayed out of this year, then Nintendo needs to step up to show what it has in store for the rest of 2020. So far, the biggest confirmed games coming exclusively to the Switch eventually (excluding Animal Crossing New Horizons) are The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild 2, Bravely Default 2, and No More Heroes 3. The sequel to Breath of the Wild probably won’t release this year, if only because of development time (BotW, and the Nintendo Switch, were released just three years ago).
However, enough time has passed to make it likely that Nintendo has at least something big to show from the game. This means that although it’s not releasing soon, another trailer for BotW 2 could be shown at the Direct later this month. It’s possible that Nintendo also finally confirms the title for Breath of the Wild 2, which is likely to drop the number. It’s also possible that Nintendo goes further than showing just a trailer and actually gives fans a look at live gameplay. Maybe it’ll reveal just how Link and Zelda will be adventuring together in the upcoming game.
However, the latter games have been given a tentative 2020 release window so it’s likely that Nintendo will want to showcase these two games more, and the unconfirmed Direct later this month is the perfect place to do so. Of all the games that Nintendo could showcase during the potential Direct in two weeks, No More Heroes 3 and Bravely Default 2 are probably the likeliest games to be shown off there, unless there has been a delay in either of the games’ development. Elsewhere, Nintendo is also likely to reveal the next DLC character for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, although rumors have been light in that department. Otherwise, Nintendo could always re-reveal Metroid Prime 4.
Other Nintendo Games and Rumors
Nintendo would make a lot of fans happy if it decided to re-reveal Metroid Prime 4 at this Direct. A new trailer, developer update, etc., would hold over fans who are still thirsty from the years-long Metroid drought. Even more so than Breath of the Wild 2, Metroid Prime 4 is unlikely to come out this year (or next year really), which is why it would also enormously benefit Nintendo to finally confirm the existence of the remastered Metroid Prime Trilogy for the Switch.
The remastered trilogy was leaked a long time ago and is presumably being held until Nintendo could figure out the release date for Metroid Prime 4. An announcement of either the trilogy or the new game at this Nintendo Direct would go a long way for fans. Another game that could stand to be remastered for the Switch is Super Mario 3D World, which was rumored to be a thing after Twitter user (and noted leaker) Sabi made it a bigger deal. Sabi’s claims have sometimes been proven correct in the past which is why this seems true (it’d also be a no-brainer for Nintendo).
Sabi also recently hinted that a new Mario Kart would be coming to the Switch, so if that’s the case, then Nintendo ought to showcase it during the rumored Direct. Going by GAME’s mishap yesterday, it’s also possible (and likely) that the collaboration between Nintendo and LEGO will be explored more during the Direct so that’s something fans can look forward to. Otherwise Nintendo is sure to have a couple of games up its sleeves that fans are unaware of. Seeing as how it loves revealing surprises during Direct presentations, fans can certainly expect new things to be announced by Nintendo in the upcoming Direct as well.
The two Nintendo Direct presentations are rumored to air over the next two weeks.
